Westerveld municipality buys campsite in Havelte to build houses

Good news for home seekers in Havelte. The municipality of Westerveld has bought a campsite in the village to prepare the site for housing. As of January 1, 2023, the municipality is the owner of the Hesselte recreation center in Havelte. In this way, Westerveld wants to contribute to the high demand for housing.

This weekend residents and placeholders of the campsite were informed. They hear that the municipality takes the time to make plans. “Carefully and in consultation with those involved,” said the municipality. At the Hesselte recreation center, several houses are owned by the park and houses are privately owned. In addition, the park has a section with annual sites and a small tractor field.

Part of the holiday home will disappear, so that new homes can be built there. But there are also many holiday homes that are already suitable for permanent residence. For many owners of a holiday home, this means that the house is given a residential destination, which allows permanent residence. In addition, the municipality wants to realize ten flex homes in the short term for people who are urgently looking for a home. In the long term, plans will be developed for sustainable housing. “This gives the area in the middle of Havelte a quality boost,” says the municipality.

The municipality emphasizes that good consultation with the current owner and care towards homeowners, park users and the environment are paramount. It is certain that the site in Havelte will no longer be a camping site in the future, but it will be phased out quietly and with a ‘good quality plan’.

Owners of holiday homes and other park users have been invited by the municipality of Westerveld for an information meeting.

The park came into the picture through discussions within the framework of the Vital Holiday Parks project. As part of this provincial project, the municipality is in talks with park owners about the future of the parks. The municipality’s interest is to keep the recreational sector healthy.

In consultation with the park owners and owners of holiday homes, it is possible to revitalize, excel or transform it into a park with a permanent residential destination, as in the case of the Hesselte recreation center.
