Minister Crevits qualifies the impact of the verdict
Flemish Minister of the Interior Hilde Crevits calls the verdict from Vilvoorde an “important ruling”, but emphasizes that the consequences are limited. “It is not the case that this ruling means that all section checks at local authorities are now invalid,” she says. The decision only applies to the individual case in Meise.
Crevits believes that local authorities should be able to continue to focus on section checks in any case. “For me, the section control instrument is extremely important for road safety. If mayors want to use it on an unsafe section, this should also be possible in the future.”
Minister of Mobility Annick De Ridder is now investigating whether the decree needs adjustments.
