After the game against HSV, a player from SV Werder Bremen celebrated with a tasteless poster. Now she spoke out about her action.
The Werder women were extremely jubilant about the 2-0 win in the northern derby against Hamburger SV – but a scene after the final whistle drew criticism. Two days later, Medina Dešić publicly apologized.
After the victory, the striker ran across the lawn with a fan poster that showed the HSV coat of arms on a pile of excrement. Dešić had previously seen the sign in the stands of the Weserstadion and then received it from the fan. On Instagram, she explained that she had acted in the euphoria of the moment and described the poster she was holding up as “off.”
“I didn’t want to offend or provoke anyone, my emotions just got the best of me,” said the 32-year-old Montenegrin international. “I’m sorry to anyone who felt offended by this.”
The action was acknowledged with whistles from the HSV fans who had traveled with them. Both clubs declined to make a public statement.
