Hamburger SV deservedly beat Werder Bremen in the northern derby, but some Rothosen professionals didn’t show their best side after the end of the game and provoked turmoil. There was strong criticism from an SVW star.

What had happened? When the final whistle sounded at the Volksparkstadion on Sunday, most of the HSV players celebrated together and rushed towards the euphoric fans. However, the 3:2 (0:1) against arch rivals Werder Bremen led Hamburg’s injured youngster Alexander Røssing-Lelesiit to provoke the SVW bench. His arrogant gestures were not without consequences.

Numerous Bremen players, including the substitute Keke Topp and licensed game manager Peter Niemeyer, stormed towards the Norwegian, which in turn brought the remaining HSV players into action. Wild shoving broke out and the situation only calmed down after a while.

There was great anger in the camp of the losing guests afterwards. “There were provocations from HSV. That was unnecessary,” clarified Werder boss Clemens Fritz.

Bremen’s goalscorer Justin Njinmah commented on the events much more sharply via “Bild”. “Some injured HSV players run onto the field and think they have to gesticulate and talk shit. That’s fucked up,” the striker said in a bad way about Røssing-Lelesiit.

Werder’s attention has long been focused on the reunion in the Weserstadion next April. “We will win the second leg,” announced Njinmah belligerently.

Wild back and forth between HSV and Werder Bremen

The northern derby, which initially had few highlights, became extremely exciting towards the end.

Albert Sambi Lonkonga (63rd minute) initially equalized Bremen’s half-time lead through Jens Stage (45th). An extremely impressive backheel goal from Luka Vuskovic put HSV in the lead for the first time (75th).

Hamburg native Njinmah immediately scored for Werder to make it 2-2 (78th). Just two minutes after coming on as a substitute, Yussuf Poulsen (84th) finally scored the winning goal for the Rothosen.
