Werder Bremen: Club legend Diego before the end of his career

Diego once enchanted the Bundesliga in the Werder jersey, today he is about to end his career – with an ace up his sleeve.

Former Bundesliga professional Diego, who once became a fan favorite with tricks and goals at Werder Bremen, has announced the end of his playing career in Brazil. However, the 37-year-old is keeping the option open of continuing his professional career, which began in 2002, with another post abroad after his contract with CR Flamengo ends in December.

Final decision is imminent

“I will now take a few more months to decide whether I will stop completely or not,” announced the midfield strategist, who won the League Cup with Bremen in 2006 and the DFB Cup in 2009, on a special convened press conference on Tuesday.

With two guest appearances for VfL Wolfsburg, Diego was later unable to repeat his successes at the Weser and made a total of 161 Bundesliga appearances with 57 goals. He was named Footballer of the Month five times and came second to Mario Gomez in the 2007 Player of the Year poll.
