On the other hand, this lack of alternatives on the left side not only speaks for Agu’s ability, but unfortunately also for the botched transfer window in the summer. The alternatives are Isaac Schmidt, who, despite his limited playing time at Leeds United, was only able to sign on loan shortly before – and therefore without pre-season preparation with the team – and Olivier Deman, who was more or less already sorted out and only “had to” stay because Agu was injured (and Deman himself broke his ankle in the summer). Maximilian Wöber, who was presented to us as an alternative at left back, may not play any more games for Werder due to injury.
Nevertheless, I have to agree with the previous speakers here: Deman or Schmidt are still the more sensible options as LV than to use Marco Friedl there again in a different position and deprive him of his strengths in IV.
