Wendy’s holiday becomes 1000 euros more expensive due to problems at Transavia

Transavia will continue to cancel flights in the near future due to a shortage of aircraft. Many hundreds of passengers have been duped and Wendy van Vliet from Hulsel is one of them. She was told by email on Wednesday that her flight from Eindhoven Airport has been cancelled. Transavia offered no alternative and so Wendy booked another flight herself to save her holiday. “But it costs more than 1000 euros extra for the two of us.”

The maintenance of a number of Transavia aircraft is overdue. New devices have also been purchased, but they cannot yet be used because the paperwork has not been completed. As a result, a large number of flights to and from Eindhoven Airport have been canceled.

Wendy is one of the duped passengers. When she received the message from Transavia in the evening that her flight was cancelled, she immediately wanted to call the airline to look for a solution.

“You lose heart because Transavia turned out to be unreachable.”

It just didn’t turn out to be that simple. “We tried to reach Transavia until ten o’clock in the evening, but that didn’t work and then you lose courage. The alternatives that are still there at that time are gone,” says Wendy.

The next day she tried to contact Transavia again. After being on hold for half an hour, it became clear that the airline had no alternatives for her.

“I hope we are compensated for the 1000 euros.”

Wendy therefore went looking for another flight herself and found one. “Only that is more than 1000 euros more expensive, so I hope it will be compensated if I file a claim. It is quite a cost item.” And where she and her husband first departed from Eindhoven Airport, they now have to go to Schiphol.

Wendy has no certainty that Transavia will reimburse the extra costs incurred. “We just have to wait and see, the airline will assess that.” The problems have caused a lot of stress and have taken away the anticipation of the holiday. “But at least we’re going to enjoy a double holiday.”

“It went wrong last year too.”

It is not really easy for Wendy and her husband in terms of flying holidays, because it also went wrong last year. “We were supposed to fly to Namibia with Lufthansa, but there was a strike and therefore the flight was cancelled. We then went to Dusseldorf by train and luckily were able to go on holiday with a Lufthansa subsidiary.” Wendy hopes that their next trip to Indonesia will finally go smoothly.

Transavia will come up with a bigger plan in the course of next week, in which several flights for May and June will be cancelled. This concerns flights from Eindhoven, Rotterdam and Amsterdam. They don’t always want to inform travelers last minute. That is why they are already canceling flights for the next two months. They hope to give travelers certainty in this way.
