Wendy van Dijk still not to the border of Ukraine: ‘Mistake’

Wendy van Dijk will not report on the arrival of refugees at the Polish-Ukrainian border after all. “Unfortunately, when the action was quickly set up, that was not quite said well.”

Chantal Janzen and Rob Kemps will present a major TV show on Monday to raise money for the victims of the war in Ukraine. The conversation at the table is led by Eva Jinek and Jeroen Pauw, while Britt Dekker is on the call panel. “And from the Polish-Ukrainian border, Wendy van Dijk reports on the current situation on site.”

Anger at Wendy

What?! Wendy is sent to the border of Ukraine?! People reacted in shock on social media last night. Videos were eagerly shared of how lousy Wendy reported on De Dansmarathon, let alone when she has to take care of war victims. And will she take DJ Errie with her? To run pictures at the border?

EenVandaag reporter Lammert de Bruin reacted furiously: “I am really angry about this Giro 555 action. There are reporters on site from both commercial and public broadcasters who have been doing an excellent job there for days. Flying in Wendy van Dijk costs extra money that could have been spent on the refugees.”

serious plan

It was a serious plan from Giro 555. “There is a little bit of confusion about it. Wendy van Dijk didn’t know yet. He said to the organization: ‘Of course I want to help’, as everyone has said. But she got the fright of her life when she was told that she will be sent there,” Rob Goossens said in RTL Boulevard yesterday.

Luuk Ikink: “It’s quite something. You could also say, “We’ll send a reporter there who already has some experience with these kinds of events.” She will not report on the war at the border, but will talk to refugees. But that is something completely different from reporting the Dance Marathon.”

Doubt and confusion

Later in the broadcast, Luuk reiterated: “By the way, we now understand – we just received that from Giro 555 – that Wendy was actually going to the border of Poland and Ukraine. She herself still doubts that. It’s a bit confusing still.”

Wendy declined to be on the broadcast. “We’re trying to get hold of her. It’s one big chaos. We try to call her, she pushes us away, but she also wants to get back on the line, so it’s all a bit complicated.”

Wendy isn’t going

At the end of the Boulevard broadcast, Luuk gave a second update: “We are trying to find out whether or not she is going to the border of Poland and Ukraine. There was some miscommunication, but she’s really going there eventually.”

Giro 555 late last night, a few hours after the broadcast of Boulevard, however let them know that Wendy isn’t going to play a war reporter after all. “When it comes to whether she will go to the border: That is not the case.. What she will do is not yet known. Unfortunately, that was not quite well said when setting up the action quickly.”

Together in Action for Ukraine can be seen on Monday from 8.30 pm to 11 pm on NPO 1, RTL 4 and SBS 6.
