Wendy van Dijk still an A-star? ‘This is bad and very painful’

Dark clouds over Nigtevecht: Wendy van Dijk’s TV career is drowning in the ratings swamp. Who throws the presenter a lifebuoy? Or has her A-star status already been lost?

Wendy van Dijk was considered an absolute A-star for many years. As a presenter of The Voice and as an actress in Moordvrouw, she achieved excellent viewing figures for years. How different it is these days: when she’s not facing languishing dance marathoners, she’s back on the channel with some weird dating show.

Singing from top 25

Where Wendy first made a dating show with singles who met while dancing, she can now be seen on SBS 6 with a program in which singles meet each other while singing: Liedje Op Het First Face. After 463 thousand and 381 thousand viewers, the presenter saw her score fall even further yesterday.

The third episode of this musical Wendy show came out at eight o’clock in the evening to 345 thousand viewers (7 percent), no longer enough for a spot in the top 25 viewing figure. 425 thousand viewers (12 percent) and is in there, in place 24.

Very painful

Tina Nijkamp, the former director of SBS 6, does not think this is good. “The program has fallen out of the top 25. That really hurts for John de Mol and SBS 6. Unfortunately another big flop for John de Mol. Wendy will also wonder why this show does not score again.”

The answer is simple, says Tina. “The premise is wrong. No one goes looking for love singing. Hardly anyone can sing beautifully at all. And so viewers think it’s fake. Although that does not have to be the case, it still comes across as too contrived and not believable. But these are very bad and very painful viewing figures.”

She concludes: “So really bummed for Wendy, Edsilia, John and everyone at SBS 6. And everyone also knows that the chance of improvement is small.”

Even Until Here wins

The parody show Even Tot Hier, containing a song about the misconduct of Matthijs van Nieuwkerk, was the big winner on prime time with 1.8 million viewers (36 percent). Immediately before, NPO 1 attracted 1.4 million viewers (30 percent) with Ik Departure.

RTL 4 takes silver with 764 thousand viewers (16 percent) for The Big Show with Ruben Nicolai. The bronze goes to NPO 2’s Sterren op het Doek with 689 thousand viewers (14 percent).
