Wendy van Dijk sees Ministars flop: ‘What a viewership havoc!’

It’s crying again with the cap on for Wendy van Dijk. Her brand new Friday evening show Ministars, which she presents together with friend Britt Dekker, is a flop. “This is really a mess.”

It was an old-fashioned exciting TV evening last night: opposite NPO 1’s not-too-successful musical show Op Search, RTL 4 and SBS 6 started with Chantal’s Pyjama Party and Ministars respectively. The battle was very exciting. So exciting that NPO 1 even decided to scrap the commercial before Op Search Naar.

‘What a night!’

Such an intervention is very special for a public TV channel, knows TV connoisseur Tina Nijkamp. Canceling an ad block doesn’t just happen. “I have never seen that before at the NPO. This has a price tag of around 50,000 euros. This is quite a commercial television intervention,” she says to her analysis channel.

Did it work? Well no. In fact, all three shows score meager. “What a night. And what a ratings mess. NO million viewers on prime time for NPO 1, RTL 4 and SBS 6. The viewer is NOT waiting for Op Search Naar, Chantal’s Pyjama Party and Ministars.”

The big winner turns out not to be the big family entertainment, but NPO 2’s docuserie Het Water Comes with 954 thousand viewers (19 percent market share). “Historical ratings this.”

Chantal on two

Chantal Janzen is in second place with 865 thousand viewers (17 percent) for her pajama stuff. “In the commercial target group aged 20 to 54, we have a nice 27.5 percent market share. RTL 4 will be satisfied with that. But it is quite a shock for Chantal and RTL 4 in terms of total viewing figures.”

After all, Ruben Nicolai scored more than two million viewers at the same time last week with The Masked Singer. The bronze at prime time is for Frits Sissing with 727 thousand viewers (15 percent) for Op Search Naar. Slightly more than last week. “But that is also allowed after the emergency measure to remove a commercial break.”

Wendy from top 25

And where is Wendy van Dijk with her TV show Ministars? It follows at a considerable distance, after many other prime-time titles such as Nieuwsuur (688 thousand), 112 Today (413 thousand) and De 10 Questions (407 thousand). Her show gets stuck at 376 thousand viewers (8 percent) and that is of course really sad for Wendy, who has been on the viewing figure drip for some time.

Tina, the former channel boss of SBS 6, speaks of a ‘great drama’ for the channel. She also points to the low share in the commercial target group: 6 percent. “That is really little and also the lowest score of the day in that target group for SBS 6. What a nightmare. Incredibly low ratings. Didn’t expect this.”

Not only Wendy was put to work for this TV invention by John de Mol, but also her co-host Britt Dekker and jury members rapper Snelle, Rolf Sanchez and Miss Montreal. That star cast is now being put in a painful way by the viewer. The viewing figures are not expected to rise any more; they usually drop after the first episode.
