well-crafted retro irony – or old man’s fantasy?

The Los Angeles tabloid press already had the (at the time strictly shielded) filming of the Rolling Stones’ new video on their radar.

As well-timed leaks, more and more details from the clip became known, especially the rock-chic look of US actress Sydney Sweeney (“Euphoria”) caused massive whispers.

With the release of the song “Angry”, the rumors in the fan circles on social media have now come to an end.

Apparently the Stones’ styling team has a soft spot for the 1980s on the US West Coast. The 25-year-old actress is wearing an unusual black leather corset from Versace, which is combined with sexy leather over-trousers from the rodeo scene (“Chaps”).

Sweeney zooms down Sunset Boulevard in a red convertible; Archive footage from the life of the London legends flickers in the foreground and background over the famous Hollywood mega-billbaords.

Fashionistas register a skin-tight bustier with a “crop top” for the actress from the series “White Lotus” while she writhes on the hood of the car or plays the air guitar.

The less than romantic UK tabloid press speaks of a “rock star girlfriend ensemble”; with fingerless gloves and a chunky silver choker necklace.

It’s up to the viewer whether it’s about well-crafted retro irony. Or old man fantasies.

Meanwhile, Sweeney himself shared a short Insta clip while many fans celebrated the collaboration with the band.

One comment reads: “Sydney + The Rolling Stones = PERFECTION”. Another liked to joke: “Totally iconic. The Rolling Stones aren’t that bad either.”

The song “Angry” is a single from the upcoming album “Hackney Diamonds”, which is known to be the band’s first “long-length” with their own songs since 2005.

In a press conference, Sweeney stated that she was literally “shocked” when the Rolling Stones asked her agency whether she would like to appear in a music video.

Sweeney already has some shock rocker experience. She appeared in music clips for Machine Gun Kelly; but she also knew how to shine for Halsey.
