The new title gain remains in sight for Formula E World Champion Pascal Wehrlein.

With second place at the E-Prix in Berlin, the Porsche pilot kept a remaining chance of his second World Cup title one after the other. The German benefited from a late, self -inflicted accident of his competitor Oliver Rowland (Nissan). Due to the podium and the fastest racing round, Wehrlein collected important points and shortened his gap to the excreted British three races to 50 points before the end of the season.

“It is good to get rid of ninth and get second. We were the fastest on the track and smelled fuss,” said Wehrlein at DF1 after the race: “Good points for the team, good points for me.” The winner at the course at the former Berlin-Tempelhof Airport was the New Zealander Mitch Evans (Jaguar), who also won the rainy qualifying. Wehrlein had been ordered after an accident with his Portuguese team -mate Antonio Felix da Costa.

Wehrlein, who has to continue to win at the home race, now has three races to catch up with the clear deficit to Rowland: In addition to the second race in Berlin, the German runs in London (July 26/27). Rowland, who had started an outstanding start of the season, now offers a target: for the fourth time in a row, he clearly missed the podium, in two out of four races he remained without meters.

The German David Beckmann (Cupra), Maximilian Günther (DS Pensenke), was also eliminated with sixth place.
