Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco apparently had a few mishaps at their wedding last year. At Jimmy Kimmel Live Blanco admitted that his bride lost her wedding vows “for about four days five days before the wedding.”
The producer stopped by the late-night show with his pal Dave Burd, aka Lil Dicky, to promote their new podcast “Friends Keep Secrets” – and took the opportunity to share how he finally came across Gomez’s vows “right before the wedding.”
“They were handwritten,” Blanco said. “I didn’t look. I closed my eyes and gave it to her. I swear! I really didn’t look. But how good is that? That made me look so good. That was the best thing I could have done. I’m about to marry her and then I find this thing? She cried.”
Dave Burd as officiant
Blanco also shared that he asked Burd to deliver the wedding speech – but Gomez asked him to cut several passages because they were part of her own vows.
“He came over to where we were having the wedding and we were all getting ready and I was on the phone with my wife and she was going through her speech and she said, ‘Hey, make sure Dave doesn’t say anything about this part or this part because that’s part of my speech,'” Blanco said. “And that was the entire first three minutes of his speech.”
Blanco and Gomez have been sharing some details of their wedding, which took place on September 27 in California, over the past few months. The guest list included Taylor Swift, who gave a speech, as well as Gomez’s Only Murders in the Building co-stars Steve Martin and Martin Short.
Martin Short and the wedding cake
Last month on Kimmel, Short opened up about how he almost ruined the wedding by cutting into the cake too early. “I just assumed there was a wedding cake for each area,” Short said. When Martin announced he was leaving, Short, already a few cocktails down and fork in hand, said, “Oh Steve, you can’t leave without having a piece of wedding cake.”
“And I cut the wedding cake on one side and then the other, and then everyone in our group yelled, ‘Marty!'” he recalled. “That was the Wedding cake.” Short and Martin wanted to keep the incident a secret from Gomez. “But as I was about to leave, Selena came over and said, ‘Hey Marty, I heard you wanted to eat my cake!'” Short said.
