Troo hot, too cold, wind but above all rain. The weather situation is the quintessential ingredient of a marriage which escapes the control of the spouses, and of course also of the suppliers. And, of course, never as in this spring-summer, dramatically marked by unusual climatic phenomena of the period. About 8 out of 10 couples confirm that the weather is what worries them the most for the big day.
Weather on the wedding day: it is the thought that worries all the spouses
This is what emerges from the 2023 edition of The White Book of Marriage, published by Matrimonio.com (in collaboration with Google and Esade). The leading platform in Italy for the bridal sector (part of The Knot Worldwide group) has therefore developed a series of tools to better address the situation.
On the one hand, it has developed one weather forecast tool, based on official sources and historical data, which allows couples to have a rough forecast of the weather for their wedding day even many months later. In order to get a rough idea of who will accompany them between sun and clouds.
But, since it is clear that this is a rough estimate, even more useful can be the tips for the locations to choose from and tips for organizing a bad weather-proof wedding.
5 weatherproof locations
There are structures that adapt to any weather because they offer large spaces both indoors and outdoors. Others that can be equipped to allow you to use the outdoor spaces even in case of rain. And others that can really amaze: neither indoors nor outdoors, they are unusual but of great impact.
1. Tensile structures. They are a practically essential element for couples who want to celebrate their wedding outdoors. 27% of couples said they had planned accessories such as umbrellas, umbrellas, awnings or canopies in case of unfavorable weather conditions. There are more traditional proposals and others that are truly unusual: from Bedouin tents to geodesic domes.
2. Greenhouses or conservatories. They are magical places, perfect for those who want a botanical-style wedding but not only. These structures allow the bride and groom and their guests to experience an outdoor wedding, but with the warmth and all the comforts of an indoor wedding. And since they allow for a thousand and one decoration possibilities, they can accommodate any type of set-up. Any examples? Acquaviva estate (BS), Jardin a Vivre (NO) and Casa Freda (FG).
3. Covered porch. These are intermediate spaces between inside and outside. They are found, for example, in places such as Cascina Ajrale (To), Castello di Cavernago (BG) or Villa Il Chiaramello.
4. Cloister. Some examples of this type of location are the Chiostro dei Domenicani (Lecce) and Chiostro Cennini (Siena).
5. Halls with galleries, large windows and stables. Sometimes these are old stables, stables or stately estates that have been reinvented to become ideal places
to organize events and celebrations. This is the case of spaces such as Tenimento San Giuseppe – La Magione (Foggia), Antiche Scuderie Odescalchi (Lake Bracciano, RM) and Tenuta Barberio (BA).
7 solutions for weddings with rain
As already known and already repeated: you can’t help it. If it rains on the wedding day, the responsibility does not lie with the couple. Instead, what falls within the responsibility of the spouses is to provide the guests and the location with some solutions so that everyone can enjoy the big day despite the bad weather.
1. Think about it ahead of time
If rain is an eventuality in the chosen season, it is necessary to prepare plan B in time. Consulting with suppliers can give useful ideas. From the rental of tensile structures to the choice of corners chosen for buffets and cake cutting.
2. Have fun with colorful umbrellas
To color a gray day, colored umbrellas can be a winner: you can buy them a stockall colors or the theme color of the wedding.
3. Take shelter under comfortable hoods
Another useful purchase is a set of capes, oilcloths or extravagant rain hoods. White for the bride, black or midnight blue for the groom and many colors for the guests. Worn over elegant formal dresses they will be surprising.
4. Organize the transfers
It is worth making sure that in the location they are properly equipped to accompany the guests from the car park to the one where the welcome cocktail will be served. If they have to cross a garden or a long avenue between pavement and gravel on foot, it is good that transfers are arranged. 5. Pay attention to hair and makeup
Hairstyle and make-up must be recalibrated according to the weather. Products with an anti-frizz effect, waterproof cosmetics and eyeshadows with an “adhesive” finish are solutions for everyone.
6. Decorate with galoshes
As plan B proves to be plan A, you can replace some small decorations with nice galoshes, aka… rain boots in colored rubber. As planters or umbrella stands, they can be a lot of fun. Prerequisite, a lot of irony.
8. Indulge in shooting in the rain
The rain can give spectacular scenery for official photos, and hilarious for the moment of trash the dress. That is that moment, at the end of the party, in which the dress can, and indeed must, be ruined, because the bride and groom throw themselves into improbable experiences. From swimming in the sea to a horse ride. Or, indeed, they treat themselves to a session of jumping in the mud.
