The Tuomaa market started today, Friday, at Helsinki’s Senate Square.
Over the years, one food has become a real hit at Helsinki’s Tuomaa market. It’s rice porridge, of course.
This year, there are four stalls selling Christmas porridge at the Tuomaa market, and in addition, the distillery’s own Christmas porridge is available at Helsinki Distilling’s kiosk in Esplanadi Park.
The range of rice porridge has diversified year by year. There are a few traditional rice porridges with sugar and cinnamon, but also the most creative delicacy porridges. Porridge prices vary from seven to twelve euros. An expensive hit porridge has emerged from ordinary rice porridge.
We tested all five Christmas porridges. Porridges are in test order, not superiority.
Teemu Aura Patisserie
Porridge: Teemu Aura’s The Christmas Porridge. Rice porridge, cinnamon-kinuski, almond praline, browned butter and cranberry
Price: 11 euros
Comments: The porridge is velvety soft, camel-like and the tangy sauce is very delicious. The pralines are pleasant sensations in the mouth and the sprinkling cranberry provides a suitable counterpoint. Really excellent porridge, downright sinful pleasure.
Puurobari by N4ku
Porridge: Forest porridge Nielu. Rice porridge. Blueberry, lingonberry, rum raisin, fir oil, blueberry mousse, browned butter, lichen crumble.
Price: The exact price of the sink had not been determined at the time of filming. Other N4kun porridges 6–12 euros.
Comments: A wonderfully velvety porridge, with which the blueberry whipped cream goes great, the rum raisin brings a nice touch of its own. The combination of sharp, warm and cold works great.
Pop-up cafe Mama Nikolas
Porridge: Creamy rice porridge. Rice porridge, cinnamon, sugar, buttermilk.
Price: 7 euros.
Comments: Traditional rice porridge that tastes exactly like grandma’s rice porridge should taste like. The cream added to the porridge really brings a wonderful softness to the taste. It’s good.
Sofia Helsinki
Porridge: Rice porridge, raisins, almond chips, cinnamon, sugar
Price: 7 euros.
Comment: The salt is a bit uneven in the porridge, and the porridge has clearly not been boiled for quite as long as the other test porridges. In a tough series, not quite top ten.

Porridge: Rice porridge, whiskey quince and lingonberry gel, gingerbread crumbs, roasted marshmallow
Price: 10 euros
Comments: Another velvety porridge that combines sweetness and a little acidity. A whiskey canister is every whiskey lover’s dream, that’s all I can say.
