We tested supermarket mascaras: these are the best

You can get a good one for cheap if you know what you’re looking for. We tested affordable mascaras from market cosmetics.

A good mascara and an affordable price do not necessarily go hand in hand. We tested supermarket mascaras and were positively surprised by how many excellent mascaras we found in this group.

Essence’s mascara, known for its affordability, was a positive surprise.

A total of nine testers tested the mascara for a few weeks.

L’Oreal: Pro XXL Extension20.90 e, K-Citymarket.

School grade: 7.5

Tester’s lashes: My eyelashes are relatively thick, but short and straight. From mascara, I hope for length and that the curl of the eyelashes is preserved.

User experience: The mascara is double-ended, meaning the product is applied with two brushes. The priming brush is easy to use and the product spreads neatly. With a double-headed brush, it takes a little more time than usual to apply the eyelashes. You can make eyelashes look pretty, but it takes effort. The product must be applied carefully so that it does not clump on the eyelashes. The two-step mascaras seem a bit gimmicky to the taste of the tester. I felt that two brushes did not give a significant additional boost to the eyelashes. There is hardly any mascara left for everyday use, because applying mascara with two brushes on busy mornings is not exciting.

Plus: The product is really durable! The mascara lasts until late evening without creasing or flaking. The eyelashes also kept their shape well, i.e. they did not straighten.

Cons: A brush with a colored end, which is meant to add volume, is messier. A lot of product from the tube remains on the brush. The second layer of color no longer spread as easily.

Essence: Another Volume Mascara Just Better4.39 e, A nimble one.

School grade: 9-

Tester’s lashes: My own eyelashes are relatively long and bushy, i.e. quite easy, so I don’t have big demands on mascara. I like long and separated eyelashes.

User experience: Spreads evenly and beautifully on the eyelashes and gives a fan-like effect. Easy to apply, does not cause clumps and separates lashes well. The mascara is quite liquid and doesn’t dry too quickly, which gives you time to fine-tune your lashes. Not water resistant, spreads on contact with moisture. However, in everyday everyday use, I didn’t notice it spreading disturbingly.

Plus: Adds length and darkness to lashes, while still leaving them looking relatively natural. Plus the very affordable price and good price-quality ratio!

Cons: However, the brush is big and a bit clumsy, which can cause difficulties especially for novice makeup artists. Maybe not the most flashy or volumizing mascara, although layering is possible. Minus the possibility of spreading.

Catrice: Lashes To Kill 24h No Panda Eyes Smudgeproof Mascara5.49 e, Catrice.

School grade: 8

Tester’s lashes: My eyelashes are quite pale and modest. I prefer mascaras that can be removed with warm water, because they are the only ones that have proven to not stick to lids, do not run or make a mess. Currently, Idun Minerals water-resistant mascara sold in pharmacies is being used.

User experience: The mascara stayed on well, didn’t crease or tangle, and these are the most important criteria for a mascara tester. Spreadability leaves much to be desired. It felt like the mascara didn’t stick properly, especially to the lower lashes. Contrary to what was promised, the mascara didn’t come off completely with warm water, and a water-resistant make-up remover was also needed.

Plus: The mascara’s longevity is a plus: the product stays on really well!

Cons: The mascara bristles were longer than what the tester was used to. It made it difficult to apply the color to the lashes. I felt that it was difficult to get the color to stick and especially when applying the lower lashes, the color easily messed with the skin.

BeautyAct: Waterproof Lasting Impact Mascara17.90 e, Kicks.

School grade: 7

Tester’s lashes: The tester’s eyelashes are quite straight and short. I usually look for volume in my lashes.

User experience: Often my problem with mascaras is that the mascara runs into the lower corners of the eyes, even if it’s a waterproof mascara. BeautyAct’s mascara was an exception. The color stayed on all day and didn’t crease or spread to the dark circles. The product even lasted a swimming trip. It was wonderful not having to check my eyes in the mirror every now and then. The product is easy to apply to the eyelashes, even though the brush is quite thick and sturdy.

Plus: It lasted perfectly all day on the lashes. The mascara came off easily with makeup remover.

Cons: The mascara didn’t give much thickness or volume and it was a little disappointing, because my own eyelashes are quite straight and short.

IsaDora: 10 Sec High Impact Lift & Curl Mascara17.90 e, Prism.

School grade: 9-

Tester’s lashes: Dark, but very straight eyelashes. Relatively bushy, but not very long. The challenge is to get long-lasting curvature and flexibility in the eyelashes.

User experience: The product is promised to lift and volumize eyelashes. There were high expectations for the lift, as it is one of the standard challenges of the eyelash tester. The volume from the mascara was good and the color was easily applied even to small lashes, however, the lift was unfortunately quite short no matter how carefully you applied the product. A long-lasting formula that didn’t budge even at the end of a long day.

Plus: The product is vegan and fragrance-free. I liked the non-fussy brush, which was used to apply the color evenly and add volume to the lashes. A good price-quality ratio and an excellent everyday mascara for someone who wants slightly more impressive eyelashes even on a daily basis.

Cons: The promised effect of the increase was less than expected. It sometimes required a slightly more powerful eye make-up remover to help.

Maybelline: Lash Sensational Sky High, 14.50 e, Tokmanni.

School grade: 9

Tester’s lashes: The tester’s eyelashes are black, quite long. The tester appreciates the natural and well-groomed end result and usually buys his mascara from selective cosmetics.

User experience: The product feels high-quality already when applied, it is easy to apply. Eyelashes clearly get longer, the end result is natural. This product is suitable for those who want more length from their mascara, not so much mass, which usually looks unnatural and loose.

Plus: The price-quality ratio is excellent.

Cons: If you want thick lashes, this is not the product for you.

Rimmel: Kind & Free Clean, Volumizing & Lengthening Mascara11.90 e, Eleven.

School grade: 8

Tester’s lashes: Thick, short, dark lashes that don’t stay curled for very long. In search of eyelashes, there is usually ease, an even end result and curvature. Lashes that clump easily or have a too natural result will not be able to continue.

User experience: Everything unnecessary has been removed from this mascara and it contains 99 percent natural ingredients. A good water-resistant mascara with a natural result. The brush was of high quality and the color spread easily and fan-like on all lashes. It is possible to layer the light product, if you want to look more impressive. The product did not clump and stayed on well throughout the working day. Subtly adds extra length to the lashes.

Plus: The gentle mascara didn’t irritate the eyes: so it’s also great for people with sensitive eyes and contact lens wearers. The raw material list of vegan eyelashes also contains nourishing organic herbs and biotin.

Cons: Maybe the end result looks a little too natural for the tester’s mind, even though it was layered, but therefore perfect for a lover of a less spectacular look.

Gosh: Just click it! Waterproof Mascara17.30 e, Sokos.

School grade: 6

Tester’s lashes: My own eyelashes are quite colorless, but long and curved. So it’s usually enough to get any color on them, and there’s no need for a special volume, for example. One and the same basic black mascara is usually used, which does not promise miracles, but goes with the workday, party night or even night.

User experience: I tried this for the first time at a relative’s christening party on a summer Sunday: however, the water-resistant feature failed during the party. As a special note, I think that the unusual way of opening gave quite a revolutionary impression, but it still felt a bit unnecessary.

Plus: The brush part, which is thinner in the middle, is convenient, it makes applying the color more natural.

Cons: The mascara was surprisingly clumpy and the extra volume applied was exhausted. In the evening, the color came off when washed with warm water just as easily as other mascaras, i.e. not particularly waterproof despite the promises.

Essence: Sensitive but Wow Volume Mascara, 4.39 e, Lyco.

School grade: 9+

Tester’s lashes: My eyelashes are dark and bend easily. As a woman with dark features, I usually look for showiness from mascara and eye make-up. I’m looking for a bigger effect with everything, and I like to apply mascara visibly, because my eyelashes are dark anyway. This mascara served its purpose well. I use mascara almost every day of the week because I like makeup. Mascara will be used.

User experience: Functional and attractive everyday mascara! The color spread evenly and smoothly on the eyelashes. A beautifully separated final result was born, which also dried quickly. The tester’s eyelashes are the bendable variety, so there was no need for a curler, as the mascara did the job perfectly. The tube and brush are comfortably light in the hand, and the uncomplicated regular brush part does its job without any special features. If you want, you can make it more spectacular by adding layers – wonderful starry eyes were born. The mascara stayed on well all day. It was used on rainy days, and it didn’t spread even then, but remained beautiful all day, even though the tester ran around the city running errands and dog walks, exposed to the rain several times. The final result was preserved even during sports!

Plus: The curvature and showiness of the eyelashes. The staying power of the mascara in the rain and during sports was excellent.

Cons: Cleaning seems to require a little more time.

Catrice: Boost Up Volume & Lash Boost Mascara5.90 e, Cocopanda.

School grade: 8.5

Tester’s lashes: I use mascara almost every day. My skin is sensitively oily, so I sometimes suffer from makeup or mascara melting into my lids. That didn’t happen with this mascara, so I’m happy and super satisfied.

User experience: The mascara is not felt on the lashes at all, which is a wonderful feeling. Mascara creates beautiful, separated and natural-looking eyelashes. I like natural-looking makeup, so this mascara is to my liking. I like it! If you like a more intense looking end result, you can do it by applying several layers to your eyelashes.

Plus: The vegan mascara stayed on the lashes well all day! It didn’t start rattling or otherwise behaving in an unpleasant way.

Cons: If you are looking for flashy lashes that really stand out: another lash might be a better option.
