“We are very proud of the results”: Major police action in five European countries against human smuggling

There were house searches this morning, but also in Germany, the Netherlands, France, Great Britain. It is not yet clear exactly how many people have been arrested, and how large the network of people smugglers is that has been rolled up: they will tell you this tomorrow at an international press conference at Europol in The Hague, Netherlands.

“We are very proud of the results of this international action, in which Belgium has a very substantial share. The cooperation with the other districts (police and judicial authorities) and with neighboring countries has led to this success,” is the provisional statement.

People smugglers have been operating on our coast for some time. In the harbours, along the highway and in the meantime attempts have also been made with rickety rubber boats from the beach. Especially on the West Coast, smugglers send refugees into the water in appalling conditions.
