Waterway rowers De Hunze in Groningen blocked by construction projects such as the ring road

Rowing club De Hunze in Groningen will have less access to waterways in the coming months due to construction projects in the city. Chairman Ron Diercks of De Hunze says he is ‘surprised’ by the closure of two shipping routes.

Due to the replacement of the Juliana Bridge in the North Willems Canal, no shipping will be possible until March 6, 2023. Only commercial shipping is allowed to pass here daily between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.

The rowers will not be able to use the Reitdiep for the time being either, due to work being carried out between the railway bridge and the ACM bicycle bridge in the Reitdiep. Shipping between those bridges is completely banned from November 21 to December 23. Only commercial shipping is allowed to pass here between 12 and 2 pm.

The board of De Hunze nevertheless hopes to discuss with the construction companies whether rowing at the weekend is possible on these waterways. The Winschoterdiep, the Diepring and the Reitdiep to the railway bridge are mentioned as alternative routes
