The weather is lovely these days, but exposing your body too much to the sun can be treacherous. Take your precautions, because skin cancer is lurking.
Dermatologist Sharon Dodemont of the Catharina Hospital in Eindhoven answered questions in a Q&A on the web, app and Facebook of Omroep Brabant on Tuesday evening. ‘Protect, clothes and grease’ is her watchword and she also had some advice: go to the doctor with a noticeable mole. And especially if you’re in doubt. Skin cancer can also be cured by surgery or by ointments for four to six weeks.
All people who sent in questions about skin cancer, some accompanied by photos, will receive a response from the Catharina Hospital within two weeks. In most cases, Sharon Dodemont was able to provide a reassuring diagnosis.
Note: when in doubt, it is advisable to contact your doctor to have a stain assessed. Judging a photo from a distance never gives 100 percent certainty. Certainly not with moles.
