FC Meppel and De Weide are doing good business in the relegation battle

FOOTBALL – Drenthe help for FC Meppel and De Weide tonight. In the fight to avoid the playoffs in the 2nd division J, both teams beat a fellow provincial. De Weide was too strong for LTC with 1-3, while FC Meppel won at SC Elim: 1-2.

Despite those victories, it remains unusually exciting at the bottom of the 2nd division J. NEC Delfzijl seems to have dropped out. That team is on 13 points and is on its way to the 3rd division. The question remains which two teams will have to save their lives through the play-offs. Three teams are on 23 points with 4 games left to play: The Knickerbockers, De Weide and Oosterwolde. FC Meppel is three points above that.

Tim Mulder gave the guests the lead halfway through the first half and after fifteen minutes in the second half Mitchell Luchtenberg seemed to make the decisive 0-2. But LTC came back into the game shortly after the 0-2 score via Imre de Jonge, but five minutes after the connecting goal, Mulder determined the score at 1-3. Despite sufficient opportunities for the home team, there was no change in the score.

Justin Benjamins gave the home team the lead after fifteen minutes and ten minutes before half time FC Meppel tied the score thanks to Pim ter Voorde. Hugo Bisschop took care of the decisive 1-2 fifteen minutes before the end, after which Elim player Leon Terpstra received his second yellow (and therefore red) card just before time.
