Watch Jari Saario’s shocking display of strength

Powerlifter Jari Saario has once again set new Finnish records, this time in the strongman competitions.

In August, in the Kuopio Vahvin competition Jari Saario lifted an SE result of 505 kilograms in the sport known as the silver dollar deadlift.

– The sport is a variation of the deadlift, and the big boxes at the end of the pole were once full of silver coins, Saario explains the background of the name.

On September 17th, a competition was held in the hometown of 37-year-old “Savon Paron” from Kaavi. He set two Finnish records for the sailor’s walk in the Kaavi Kovin race.

In the sport, a rack is carried around the neck, where the weights are placed close to the ground.

– First, 460 kilograms and 10 meters was a Finnish record. Then I said that we will put the hardest irons that have ever been carried in Finland – according to the information I received. It went over that distance, Saario times his SE result of 516 kilograms and 4.9 meters.

– Without that previous performance, I could have gone even further.

The records were created in the strongman competition in the side sport of Saario, who works as a government official.

– Both were new sports for me. It was the fourth time for me to perform the sailor’s walk, and it was about the same in silver.

Actually, Saario competes in classic powerlifting competitions under the Finnish Powerlifting Association, where the sports are leg squat, bench press and deadlift.

As a member association of the Finnish Olympic Committee, Voimanostoliitto is committed to anti-doping work. Speaking in favor of clean sports, Saario belongs to the Adams pool, i.e. a strict testing group. He has been tested with urine and blood samples more than 20 times.

The Finnish records for the squat, deadlift and combined result are held by Saario, who is 179 centimeters tall and weighs about 140 kilograms.

– Sometimes you should count how many records I’ve set, but probably more than ten. That’s enough power for the strongman side. You just have to learn the technique.

Spiritual cover

Saario reminds that in powerlifting sports, the psychological side must also be strong.

– For example, in the sailor’s walk, it all depends on your own mental edge. I’ve always said that I’m better in the race than in training. For example, in the silver dollar deadlift, the very maximum in the gym was 477.5, and I never would have thought that I would be able to pull more than 500 kilograms.

– In a competitive situation, you always have extra energy and don’t give up easily.

Saario assures that approaching forty does not prevent a man from developing.

– Testing one’s own limits is attractive. In the winter, there are the European powerlifting championships, and I’m trying to set Finnish records as well. Yes, it is still in stock.
