Saudi Arabia has been made official as the host of the 2034 men’s football World Cup. Spain, Portugal and Morocco will instead host the 2030 World Cup in a project that also includes the involvement of South America, with Uruguay, Paraguay and Argentina hosting the first three of the 104 scheduled matches. This was announced by FIFA president Gianni Infantino in Zurich. This is the first tournament in history to take place on three different continents. The choice of Latin America is a tribute to the first World Cup which was staged in 1930 in Uruguay: the ‘Centenario’ stadium in Montevideo will therefore host the first match of the event.
