Wassen wins EM silver from the tower

The water jumper Christina Wassen (24) won silver at the end of a successful day of competition for the German team at the European Games in Poland.

The Berliner was beaten from the tower only by the British Eden Vivian Ho-Chi Cheng. Her sister Elena Wassen (22) was fourth. It was the fourth medal for the German team on Friday – including two gold medals.

Christina Wassen also had the title in mind in Rzeszow and thus a quota place for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. In the last jump, however, Cheng took the lead. 0.65 points separated the two. Elena Wassen missed bronze by 2.80 points.

Karateka Reem Khamis (20) and Johanna Kneer (25) had previously won the first German gold medals at the multi-sport event. First, double European champion Khamis prevailed in the final of the class up to 61 kg, then Kneer triumphed in the class over 68 kg.

The silver medal of the German team at the European Championships in synchronized swimming as part of the European Games was historical in several respects. It was the first German EM medal in 40 years. Frithjof Seidel was also included in the selection, which only lost to Israel. This makes him the first man in European history to win a team medal. Only since this season have men been admitted to international team competitions.
