Bright sunshine and temperatures approaching 20 degrees: this February 25 is officially the warmest ever measured. In Eindhoven the mercury rose to 19.8 degrees, good for a national record.
“This is the warmest February 25 ever measured,” says weatherman Jeroen Elferink of Weerplaza in the Omroep Brabant radio program Afslag Zuid. “With 19.8 degrees in Eindhoven, we are really close to 20 degrees. That is exceptional for the end of February.”
Shared national leading position
With that temperature, Eindhoven shares the national leading position with Maastricht, where it also reached 19.8 degrees. In the rest of the province the temperature was well above 18 degrees. “It is exceptionally mild today throughout the province,” says Elferink. “These are temperatures that you normally only see later in the spring.”
It also remains unusually mild in the evening and night. “It remains dry and clear at first,” the weatherman explained. “Later in the night some cloud fields will pass over, but the temperature will only drop to about 9 degrees towards the end of the night. These are actually normal afternoon temperatures for this time of year.”
‘It remains on the soft side’
It will be mild again on Thursday, although the extremes of Wednesday will not be reached. Sun and clouds alternate and the temperature rises to 15 to 17 degrees.
Later in the day the clouds will increase and the westerly wind will increase. “It remains on the soft side,” says Elferink. “But it won’t be as extreme as today.”
