The Royal Order of the Horse Fishermen has been responsible for the promotion of the shrimp fishermen on horseback for 57 years. “When we founded the Order, there were only two horse fishermen on to stop. We had to do something to save tradition,” says René Decorte, grandmaster of the Order.

Today, 15 horse fishermen are still active, and the recognition as a UNESCO World Heritage has fueled interest worldwide. “We get visitors from South Korea, the US and Canada, the interest is huge,” says Decorte.
