Want to see Willem-Alexander and Máxima in real life on King’s Day? This is how you travel smartly from Zoetermeer to Rotterdam

King Willem Alexander and his family are celebrating his birthday in Rotterdam this year. For Zoetermeerders this is the chance to see Willem and Max in real life. From Zoetermeer you can be along the route of the royal procession within an hour.

On April 27, 2023, the Royal Family will make one city ​​tour one kilometer long through Rotterdam. The walk starts at 11 a.m. in Rotterdam South in the direction of the center. At the Maashaven, the King gets into a water taxi for a trip across the Maas.

Public transport and bicycle are preferred

The municipality of Rotterdam recommends traveling by public transport or by bicycle. These options are available for Zoetermeer residents:

  • RandstadRail and metro
    Travel with HTML tram 3 or 4 from Zoetermeer to the Leidschenveen stop. From there, take metro E (Slinge) to Rotterdam and get off at the Maashaven stop. Then you are near the starting point of the route. You can read more tips here.
  • By train
    Via train station Zoetermeer, Zoetermeer Oost and Lansingerland-Zoetermeer you can travel via Gouda and via Den Haag Centraal to Rotterdam Centraal. Check the NS journey planner here.

    Do you like to move and do you want to avoid the traffic in the direction of Rotterdam? Then grab your (electric) bike! From Zoetermeer you can be in South Rotterdam within five minutes and enjoy the orange party. Look at here the cycle route.
