From July 30th to August 2, 2025, the Wacken Open Air, one of the best-known heavy metal festival worldwide, takes place. Many of the biggest names of the scene have already played there, including Ozzy Osbourne, legendary front man of Black Sabbath. On the occasion of his recent death, the organizers commemorate his appearance at the festival in 2011 and plan a special homage.
Appreciation on social media
In a contribution on the official Instagram channel of the festival, the organizers published a picture of the deceased musician with the words: “Rain, a bell-and then the flash hit. From that moment our world was no longer the same. You shaped them all-the legends and the newcomers alike-in a scene that you have shaped with your own hands.”
Osbournes’s appearance at Wacken Open Air 2011 was his only one at the festival. The organizers refer to him “one of the really big moments in the history of the Wacken Open Air. More rock history is not possible! […] He was absolutely convinced at the W: O: A 2011, made the fans happy and was incredibly likeable behind the stage. “
Concert transmission of Ozzy Osbournes Wacken-Performance
In the further course of the article, the organizers announced that Osbournes appearance will show the complete recording of Osbournes 2011 at this year’s festival. In addition, a special contribution will appear in the official festival magazine “The Bullhead”: “A tribute to Ozzy Osbourne and live impressions from his last concert,” they write.
Finally, it says in the social media post: “Heavy Metal will bear your name forever. We owe more than words. You gave us everything-even as your body could no longer. Rest in peace, Prince of Darkness. And greetings from us.”
One last farewell to a legend
Ozzy Osbourne died at the age of 76, just a few weeks after the final Black Sabbath concert on July 5, 2025 in Villa Park in Birmingham. The music world mourns one of its most formative personalities. Artists such as Yungblud, Pearl Jam and Elton John have already thought the musician publicly.
