VV Monnickendam loses regional derby well against ZOB: “As if you were watching a fourth team”

In the Saturday first division, VV Monnickendam and ZOB played against each other last Saturday. “Everyone has been talking about it for weeks,” says Monnickendam coach Adri Looijen.

“It is five kilometers apart and we all know each other,” says ZOB player Colin Coenderman. There have also been some transfers back and forth. For example, ZOB striker Kid Ronday played for Monnickendam for a number of years, but now he plays for the Beemsterlingen.

Emotional match

It was also an emotional match for ZOB. The father of player Dave Ninteman recently passed away with the team from Zuidoostbeemster and last week the mother of defender Jerrold van de Eeckhout passed away. Goalkeeper Erik Slave is also recovering from a double leg fracture.

Colin Coenderman managed to score for ZOB and then a special shirt was shown. “That was a statement of support to Jerrold, David and Erik,” says Coenderman.

Lack of experience

The game is going dramatically for home team Monnickendam. They lose 3-0 against big rival ZOB and that hurts in Monnickendam. “We have let a lot of people down here. Those people come here on their free Saturday and then you have the idea that you are watching a fourth team,” said player Monnickendam player Daan Pruim.
