VV Alkmaar grabs next to the semi-final spot in the cup

The cup adventure is over for VV Alkmaar. The Eredivisionist was eliminated by PSV’s U21 team in the quarter finals of the KNVB Cup. A goal from Dieke van Straten turned out to be enough: 0-1.

The young women of PSV already defeated Telstar in the previous round. VV Alkmaar was warned, but was hardly involved in the opening phase. Only Veerle van der Most and Jasmijn van der Heijde could cause some danger.

In the second half, the women of VV Alkmaar were a lot more dangerous. After a pass from Camie Mol, Van der Most encountered keeper Femke Bastiaen and Floor Spaan hit the side net. Alkmaar then got the lid on the nose. Dieke van Straten tapped in a cross and put the team from Eindhoven on 0-1. There was still half an hour to play, but the home team couldn’t make a fist and was eliminated.

The make-up match with FC Twente is scheduled for next Tuesday. Kick-off in Enschede is at 5 p.m. VV Alkmaar is penultimate, while the Tukkers are the leaders.
