The gardens of Frederiksoord are full of horses, dogs and old crafts lovers. The rural fairy horse & heritage has been attracting people to the Coloniedorp for almost twenty years and this time is no different.

The event was set up by a group of healthcare institutions to put their clients in the spotlight. In the meantime, 150 volunteers, both with and without distance to the labor market, are participating in organizing the party.

One of the volunteers is Bram Jansen, who lives in a care farm in Wapse. For weeks he rolled up his sleeves to make horse & heritage look as good as possible. “It was a mess here. We have mowed and pruned a lot to make things tidy,” says Bram.

There are more than a hundred market stalls on the fair where everything and everything is sold. Visitors can also go there for a snack and drink. The exhibitors are in turn well cared for by the care clients. “We bring them coffee and tea all day,” says Bram.

The organizing care institutions hope that people at the Fair will learn to look at their clients from a different side. “They are all people who are at a distance from the labor market, but here we use their qualities,” says Sebraine Meijerink of the organization.

That works in both sides, because for the care clients the event is more than a fun day out. Through work they come into contact with other people and learn a lot of new things. Also in social areas.

“It’s just very nice together,” says Bram. “But it is also a lot of work. Fortunately I don’t have to break it all down!”
