Table tennis professional Dimitrij Ovtcharov is worried about his start at the World Championships in Doha/Qatar.
The bronze medalist of the 2012 and 2021 Olympic Games has been suffering from intervertebral disc problems “for a few days”. “Together with the medical team, we are doing everything we can to be competitive,” wrote Ovtcharov (36) before the title fights on Instagram.
The first match of the former world ranking is scheduled for Sunday, in doubles Ovtcharov competes together with Patrick Franziska. At the last individual World Cup 2023 in Durban/South Africa, the duo won bronze.
Ovtcharov’s opening match against the Austrian Daniel Habesohn is also only planned for Sunday.
