The volleyball players from Dresdner SC suffered their first home defeat of the Bundesliga season. The Waibl team lost to their pursuers Schwerin in a high-class game. Erfurt and Suhl lost again.

The DSC had to admit defeat to the Mecklenburgers 0:3 (20:25, 22:25, 22:25) in front of a sold-out house and suffered their second defeat of the season. The Dresden team did not give up the lead in the table, but they lost their comfortable lead. After the game, coach Alexander Waibl spoke of a “setback” and attested to his team: “We were imprecise in all elements” and “overall we didn’t do well enough.”

A sleepy start takes revenge for Dresden

The hosts missed the start and were behind 1:5 after a 0:5 run. The Saxons hardly found any answers against the SSC’s fast game, made a few mistakes at the net and had to let Schwerin pull away to nine points (10:19). But the DSC didn’t let their heads down and came within 20:23. The Mecklenburgers called their second timeout in the first round – and promptly scored twice to win the set.

Against Schweriner SC, the league leaders from Dresden narrowly lost out in many tight situations.

The next black-out follows a high-class second movement

In the second section, Dresden was focused right from the start, didn’t let Schwerin’s well-performing team get away and went ahead 5-4 after a long, high-class rally. However, the lead only lasted for a short time, a 5-0 run by the guests from northern Germany followed and the league leaders ran after a deficit (5:9). Schwerin repeatedly got out of tricky situations and seemed happier, but Dresden couldn’t be shaken off, equalized to 12:12 and then took the lead with 14:12. It remained a close exchange of blows, in which Schwerin repeatedly found the more appropriate answers and won three set points. Leana Grozer used the second to give the SSC a 2-0 lead.

The DSC was shocked by this setback, was unable to gain any traction in the third set and quickly fell far behind (1:8). A time out by Alexander Waibl noticeably calmed down the Dresden team, but the deficit was too great. Schwerin used the third match point to win easily. For the first time, the Saxons remained without a point in the Bundesliga.

Schwarz-Weiß Erfurt loses the thread against VC Wiesbaden

Schwarz-Weiß Erfurt also lost the 13th game of the Bundesliga season. After a strong start, the Thuringians lost the thread against Wiesbaden and lost 1:3 (25:22, 17:25, 12:25, 21:25).

Things initially looked good for the state capitalists. The first round went to Black and White – only the third set win of the season for Erfurt. And the underdog also held up well in the second section, Mateusz Żarczyński’s team even led 10:8. But the Hessians followed up with a 5-0 run and pulled away and used the third of nine set points to equalize. The third round clearly went to the VC, who couldn’t be caught in the fourth set either. Erfurt remains at the bottom of the table with no points.

Stuttgart too strong for Suhl

The volleyball players from VfB Suhl came away empty-handed in the duel at MTV Stuttgart. The final score against the reigning champions was 0:3.

Things didn’t go well for the Suhlers Julia De Paula Viana (l.) and Jette Kuipers (r.)

Suhl had a hard time from the start, showed major problems receiving the ball and couldn’t find a solution against MTV’s strong block defense. Only Suhl’s diagonal attacker Anna Artyshuk showed a good performance. However, the Ukrainian could not prevent the first two sets from clearly going to Stuttgart 25:14 and 25:17. In the third period, VfB improved and took the lead for the first time in the entire game (3:2). Even after that, they stood up to the champions and had set point at 24:23. However, Stuttgart remained strong nerves and ultimately won the match with 26:24.
