Volkswagen, Oliver Blume new president of the Group, leaves Herbert Diess

The appointment of the German manager came today, the office will be effective from 1 September. Arno Antlitz will be his right arm

The announcement was in the air, already last year Herbert Diess was given out by the Volkswagen Group, now it’s official. From 1 September, the new president of the world’s leading car manufacturer will be 54-year-old German Oliver Blume, current Porsche number one. The decision came at the end of the board held today in Wolfsburg, at the end of which the communication from the head of the Board of Directors, Hans Dieter Potsch, arrived.

Blume will take office on 1 September next, and will retain his role as president of Porsche. Potsch himself wanted to thank the outgoing president Diess, for his “key role in the Group’s change process. He was able to guide the company through a turbulent period – referring to Dieselgate – by implementing the potential of Volkswagen”. Thanks to Diess, the acceleration on the electric models of the ID family, for example. Alongside Blume to lead the Group will be Arno Antlitz as chief operating officer.
