As exuberant as the party was last night, it is now so quiet in the old fishing village. “It took up to around 4 hours,” says youth trainer Randy Sancesches. A few partygoers even went to sleep in the stadium.
Eleventh promotion
In the village, the competition is the conversation of the day. According to many it was not the most beautiful match, but the victory counts. Former player Jan Jonk also agrees, who enjoys the sun on the dike.
In 1970 he promoted with Volendam for the fourth time. Traditionally, the players are honored on a boat called ‘the back and forth’. Named after the promotion and relegation of the beloved club.
“So many people come to watch,” says the former professional football player. “And that’s for you, say.” He finds it incredible that the club has now been promoted for the eleventh time. He does not have to explain to the current players what that is like because many football players who are now promoting did so in 2022.
