Voices in the shed of the Verbeek family: ‘Many people over the floor’

You can vote for the elections all day long in a warehouse in the outskirts of Veghel. The warehouse belongs to the Verbeek family, who find it very pleasant that people come over the floor all day long.

The neighborhood association used to be in the shed and they sometimes throw a party there themselves. Today the party of democracy is celebrated there. The warehouse has been converted into a polling station.

In times of corona, the idea arose to use the warehouse on the family’s property as a polling station. That went so well that it is also possible to vote for these Provincial Council elections in the outlying area. “I think this is unique, so in the countryside. I really like it,” says Toon, owner of the warehouse.

The shed is next to Toon’s house. He has absolutely no objection to the fact that people have been walking on his property all day long. “It’s nice to get so many people to come over,” he says with a smile.

René Jansen is chairman of the polling station. He is satisfied with the course of the day. “I like it and it’s fun,” he says. “It’s not overwhelmingly busy, but it runs smoothly throughout the day. Here you really have the time to talk to people.”
