The Westfrieslandhal in Wognum was the epicenter of Handball in North Holland this weekend. All five Eredivisia teams (SEW, VOC, VZV, Volendam and ZAP) were present, supplemented with DSS from Heemskerk. The women played a practice tournament in the run -up to the start of the competition.

Exciting battle

Although the West Frisians took the lead in the competition, VOC quickly came alongside. The coverage with the Amsterdammers was then well in order, where it went to a margin of five. “You hoped in the final that it will be a competition. And that became it,” says Sew coach Michael Vijverberg. In the group his team was too strong for Volendam and DSS and in the semi-final ZAP was beaten 27-20. “We both fought to see where we are. That is the most important thing in a friendly game.”

“It was a relief. It is always exciting to SEW,” says VOC keepster Fanoy about the win in the final. The keeper played at SEW for eight years, but since this year De Enkhuizense has been in the goal at VOC. “We’re going to relax, because it was a long weekend. We’ll be free tomorrow. We’ll deserve that,” said Fanoy.
