VOC handball players new leader after deserved victory over competitor Venlo

VOC has won the handball topper of Venlo. Rachel de Haze’s team was well ahead several times, but always let the Limburgers come back. Nevertheless, the team from Amsterdam won 31-29. This was partly due to an excellent Jill Kooij. VOC has a better goal difference than Venlo and therefore takes over the lead.

Venlo had won everything so far and was at the top without losing points. VOC had only lost against fellow provincial partner SEW. The team from Amsterdam was keen to hurt the competitor. However, the start was for Venlo, which took the lead within a minute through Sharon Grummel.

Jette van Ingen quickly equalized: 1-1. After this it remained exciting until 9-9, after which VOC took the lead for the first time via Van Ingen. The margin was then expanded by hits from Lois van Vliet (two), Faye Janson (two), Zola Amsen and Jessie van de Ruit: 16-12.

Comeback Venlo

The wide margin of four hits that the Amsterdam handball players seemed to have, was quickly canceled out after the break by Venlo: 17-17. VOC then picked up the thread and partly due to Jill Kooij it was 23-20.

The home team kept scoring and there seemed to be no problem, until Venlo came back to 29-27 in the final phase. Thanks to points from Van de Ruit and Zenzi Matthaei, VOC still won 31-29. Kooij was named woman of the match for her important share.
