The intention is to replace the current bridge on the Ghent-Oostende canal with a new and higher bridge, with a separate bicycle bridge. At the same time, there are also plans to straighten the canal.
In June, the permit decision was annulled by the Council for Permit Disputes after complaints from the neighborhood. The Vlaamse Waterweg is now amending the original permit application and taking the complaints into account. As a result, there will be a new public inquiry. The construction of the bridge will therefore be delayed until at least early 2027.
