FOOTBALL – Vivianne Miedema scored her hundredth international goal in the European Championship match against Wales tonight. The striker from Hoogeveen is more than the top scorer of all time of the Oranje Leeuwinnen.
Miedema scored in the extra time of the first half with a shot from the edge of the penalty area. The ball disappeared unreachable for the keeper of Wales in the right corner. With her goal, she gave the Netherlands a 1-0 lead.
Miedema was changed in the 70th minute, when the Netherlands was a 3-0 lead. That also became the final score.
“It’s very special,” Miedema told the NOS afterwards. “It is unreal that you make it. And that it also succeeds at the European Championship is extra beautiful. That it is also the 1-0 gives a good feeling.”
Victoria Pelova and Esmee Brugts were the other goal scorers for Orange. Defending champion England and France are the following opponents.
