The tap water in Utrecht and the surrounding area is clean and drinkable again. Water drinking company Vitens reported this on Tuesday afternoon. Last weekend, employees found the enterococcal bacteria (faeces bacteria) in a drinking water reservoir in the Kanaleneiland district of Utrecht. The drinking water company supplies 125,000 households in the Utrecht region via the reservoir.

Young children, the elderly and people with reduced resistance were at risk of developing gastrointestinal complaints. That is why Vitens advised its customers to first boil tap water for three minutes before drinking it. Showering was no problem anyway. Healthy people usually don’t notice anything.
