Visible frustration at FC Volendam after another defeat: “It just sucks”

FC Volendam took a brutal lead against FC Utrecht, but ultimately had to concede four goals. The New Orange mainly complained about a penalty not given to Milan de Haan. “It just sucks,” says the midfielder, who looked quite lost afterwards. “That’s all I can say.”

Volendam took the lead through Zach Booth, but two goals before halftime made the halftime score 2-1 for FC Utrecht. Immediately after the break, substitute Josh Flint scored the 2-2 and Volendam seemed likely to be on its way to a result. “We really need points,” says De Haan.

Trainer Regillio Simons opted for an ultra-attacking FC Volendam in the final phase. He brought in Vivaldo Semedo and Quincy Hoeve to use an ‘all-or-nothing scenario’. The most notable substitution, however, was that of Alex Guessand. The loanee from Udinese made his debut in the starting line-up, but was taken off the field after thirty minutes. A tactical choice according to Simons, who thus sends a signal to the newcomer. “It’s all about the team.”

Zach Booth filled the vacant striker position against Utrecht. After the winter departure of Lequincio Zeefuik from the fishing village, Simons had to come up with a solution. “The game is no different. We have our way of thinking,” says the coach, who has no explanation for why Zeefuik already left in the winter. “I would have liked to have kept it there longer.”
