The fish auction in Den Helder will cease to exist. All activities of Visafslag Hollands Noorden that are currently still carried out in Den Helder will be transferred to the fish auction in Den Oever.
Earlier this year, all 22 fish sorters dismissed ‘as a precaution’ through the fish auction in Den Helder. That happened then because of a new restructuring scheme for the Dutch fishing fleet, as a result of which the fishing fleet in Den Helder was halved. That was too much to maintain the job of the sorters.
But now the fish auction in Den Helder is closing completely. That is what the active members of the Coöperatie Den Helder/Texel decided on Saturday. Due to the restructuring scheme and the disappearance of the cutters, it is no longer profitable to keep the auction in Den Helder open.
The building will be renovated into a ‘BluePortCentre’, a center that can be used as a logistics base and maintenance center for the offshore (gas, oil and wind farms).
