Virgil van Dijk to wear OneLove band reconsider if German yellow card rumors are correct | 2022 football world cup

The German BILD picked up the news today that all captains with a rainbow band would receive a yellow card for spreading a political message. The KNVB recently asked FIFA for official permission to wear the OneLove band, but ultimately received no response. There is therefore no question of a pronounced prohibition.

Van Dijk will wear the rainbow band on Monday, when the Orange starts the World Cup against Senegal, anyway. Van Dijk is not the only captain who plans to play with a rainbow band on his arm. The captains of Belgium, Switzerland, Germany, Wales, England and Denmark also want to make a statement for equality in this way. The French captain Hugo Lloris announced this week that he will not put the special band around his arm.
