After ski jumping, Vinzenz Geiger was only in 15th place. The German combined athlete still took victory.
Vinzenz Geiger showed an impressive performance at the annual Nordic combined events in Ramsau am Dachstein. The Olympic champion started from 15th place after the ski jumping and, after a thrilling final sprint over ten kilometers, triumphed with a wafer-thin lead of 0.1 seconds over the Norwegian Jens Luuras Oftebro.
Geiger, who started the season later due to injury, secured his first win of the season. He explained on ZDF: “I think it was an extremely clever race on my part. I knew it would be decided in the end.” The German team thus achieved its first victory this winter.
Johannes Rydzek came fifth, followed by Wendelin Thannheimer in eighth and Julian Schmid in 15th.
In the women’s category, Nathalie Armbruster impressed with third place. After jumping from the normal hill, the 19-year-old improved from fourth place to the podium over five kilometers.
National coach Florian Aichinger was satisfied with Armbruster’s performance: “We are really happy. Today she was in top shape right from the start.” Armbruster only had to admit defeat to the Norwegian Ida Marie Hagen and the American Alexa Brabec.
The day before, she suffered a physical slump in the mass start and finished twelfth.
