National player Antonio Rüdiger and former world champion Toni Kroos won the national Supercup with Spanish soccer record champions Real Madrid.
Particularly thanks to a gala by their Brazilian top star Vinicius Junior, the Royals celebrated a 4-1 (3-1) win in the final of the final tournament sold to Saudi Arabia against their ultimately decimated arch-rivals and defending champions FC Barcelona, led by German national team captain Ilkay Gündogan.
With their success in Riyadh, Real won the Spanish Super Cup for the 13th time and are now only one success behind record winners Barca. Kroos was able to lift the trophy for the fourth time during his almost ten-year spell at Real.
Madrid beat local rivals Atletico 5-3 after extra time in the semi-finals. Barcelona reached the final with a 2-0 win against CA Osasuna.
Vinicius scored Madrid’s first three goals before half-time (7th, 10th and 39th, penalty). Former world footballer Robert Lewandowski (33rd) was only able to shorten the score temporarily. In the second period, Real’s fourth goal by Rodrygo (64th) meant the decision, especially since Barcelona had to play the last 19 minutes outnumbered after a yellow-red card for Ronald Araujo.
