The normally calm Viktor Brand was very upset last night against Hamid Kariouh, the baker from The Hague who was in the news after mr. Frank Visser makes a statement† A year after the broadcast, the noise pollution for his neighbor only got worse and she had a TIA from the stress.
22,000 euros, that’s how much viewers collected for Hamid last year. Neighbor Hellen had dragged him before the SBS 6 judge, because she was now on antidepressants because of the noise from the family upstairs.
Hamid, his wife and their young sons did nothing special in the house. But because of the poorly insulated laminate floor, every step sounded like ‘a herd of elephants’† Only neck massages and music by Frans Bauer could calm Hellen down.
When it comes to noise pollution, parties are usually diametrically opposed to each other, but not now. Neighbors are for Hamid like familyhe said. That is why he also wanted Frank Visser to come up with a solution. He ruled that Hamid had to have a new floor laid, at his own expense.
The hardworking baker couldn’t afford that. Viewers started a fundraiser, but Hamid turned down the money† He believed that Allah would bring the matter to a successful conclusion and a company had come forward that wanted to lay the floor for nothing.
Days in the hospital
That has happened, presenter Viktor Brand and 462,000 viewers saw last night in mr. Frank Visser: how is it now? But it didn’t help.
,,It got even worse”, said Hellen. He revived when it turned out that Brand had brought a signed CD of Frans Bauer, but the suffering was deep. “I got a TIA because of the whole situation, because of the stress,” she said. ,,I was in the hospital for days.” Viktor heard banging again during the conversation. “Is this driving you crazy?”
In a TIA, a blood clot blocks a blood vessel in the brain, causing it to get too little oxygen. You often suffer from paralysis and difficulty speaking. High blood pressure is one of the risk factors, stress can increase blood pressure.
Hamid didn’t want to hear it. The new floor was there, ready. But the program’s sound expert had concluded that the insulation under the new laminate is far from adequate. The company had fifteen years of experience, Hamid argued. And the floor is more robust than the judge had asked for.
Viktor, normally the rest itself, was fed up. “Have you been downstairs?” he raised his voice. “I’ve been downstairs, you can’t do this to that woman, Hamid!”
After all his worries, it’s not his problem, says Hamid. He rents the house and does not own it. “It’s your problem! Yes!” exclaimed Viktor in exasperation. ,,Because master Visser has judged and you have to stick to that statement, that this is not okay.”
No meet and greet
They couldn’t figure it out. Fortunately, Viktor had a surprise. There was no Frans Bauer outside, as Hellen had hoped, but two floor experts. They came to lay a new subfloor at the expense of SBS. Hamid was happy to work on that. “I want to help my neighbor, always.”
And she has been helped. ,,The problem from above has been solved, it doesn’t bother me anymore”, she said. “I am completely satisfied, I no longer have the noise nuisance.”
