The Rallyx European Championship weekend at KymiRing has not gone as planned, as the gravel section of the track was much longer than expected on Saturday.
In rallycross, the gravel part is launched between the races, but Kymiring took an exceptional amount of time. This caused major delays and eventually led to the reduction of the competition program from two races.
Saturday’s opening rounds were intermittent and some of the first rounds were moved to Sunday due to a tight schedule. In addition, the track must not be driven after 6 pm due to the noise restrictions of the city, which further tightened the schedule.
Viewer criticism
The weekend has also been overshadowed by viewer criticism, which has been focused on, among other things, arrangements. On Sunday, KymiRing responded by email to Iltalehti’s comment request and took a broader stand on the ambiguities and concerns that were awakened in the audience.
One of the claims of the viewers who commented on Iltalehti was that you should not bring your own stools or big chairs into the area. However, KymiRing states that large furniture will not be allowed for safety reasons, but small and folding hiking chairs are approved.
The KymiRing spokesman communicates that the public has had plenty of excursion chairs, so there have been opportunities for sitting for everyone.
The location of the seating was also criticized. Some viewers felt that the auditorium was far from the track and considered the views unsatisfactory. The annoyance of the event’s Facebook page was that the stands are at both ends of the track, “and you see no more than the cars on the horizon,” as a commenter wrote.
According to KymiRing, the auditorium is located along the output direct, which offers a view to over 90 % of the track.
One viewer commented on the event’s Facebook page with a color pen that the audience was pushed “about a kilometer” from the track.
KymiRing emphasizes that the stands are located as close as possible to the track, taking into account strict safety regulations.
The expensive price of drinking water also aroused the lazy, as up to three euros for half a liter bottle. KymiRing reminds us that there are several free water points on the track that can fill their own drinking bottles. In addition, there is a separate drinking point in the vicinity of Fan Zone, so the availability of drinking water is secured at no additional costs.
