Two men who committed serious assault in Amsterdam on King’s Day have been unmasked after images of the incident were shared online. It concerns a 27-year-old Amsterdam resident and a 25-year-old man from Uitgeest. They did not report themselves, but the police knew who they were after a series of tips and ordered the duo to report to the station.
The assault took place on Monday April 27 and took a heavy toll. A man suffered a broken jaw in three places when he stood up for his girlfriend. Because the suspects are now in the picture, the police have taken the images offline, a spokesperson told this site on Wednesday.
What happened?
The violence erupted that evening around 8:30 PM on the busy Spuistraat. The later victim was walking there with his girlfriend and some friends. The situation escalated when an unknown man pushed the girlfriend, causing her to fall to the ground.
When the victim confronted the man, he immediately received a hard punch to the jaw. According to the police, another person present also suffered several hard blows.
The consequences of the aggression were significant. The victim became unconscious and lay on the street for several minutes. When he came to, he noticed that he was bleeding from his mouth and that his jaw was crooked. He was also missing some teeth.
Several tips
In the hospital it was definitively determined that the jaw was broken in three different places. The Amsterdam police decided to share surveillance images after the incident.
That worked: several tips came in that led directly to the suspects from Amsterdam and Uitgeest. They will soon be interrogated at the police station for further investigation.
