Video doorbells sprayed black, the residents are well frightened

Several video doorbells on the Hendrikus Chabotstraat in Sprang-Capelle have been sprayed black. That is a big shock for the often older residents, who think that this is the work of people who are up to no good. Burglars or robbers, for example. “I sleep very badly,” says a 73-year-old woman.

“I was shocked. I’m so scared,” the woman says. According to residents, it all happened during the night from Monday to Tuesday. “I don’t feel safe anymore. They will come back soon.” The doorbells have now been cleaned again, but the traces of paint are still clearly visible.

Several residents show camera images, but the police have asked them not to share them. The images show a man walking through the neighborhood with a handcart. Several perpetrators are said to have been in the neighborhood for several evenings to take photos of houses with video doorbells. The cap of the spray can that was probably used is still in the street. A security camera has also been sprayed with black paint.

Blazing
“I am furious! My daughter is very scared,” says 43-year-old Robert. He tries to reassure the elderly residents in his street. “I shouldn’t encounter the perpetrators,” he says, still furious. “These are probably people who want to break in or robbers. Or they want to see which residents are on holiday by keeping an eye on which cameras are not being cleaned.”

Several residents’ garden items have been moved or disappeared. An 83-year-old woman has to hear from the Omroep Brabant reporter that there are two empty nails on the wall. “The bastards! They took my butterflies. That’s crazy.” Another woman found her images of dogs and cats further in the neighborhood.

“You think you are safe. That is not the case,” concludes Mrs. Brouwers. “This is very annoying. Many people in the neighborhood are really shocked,” says the 70-something.

The police were tipped off by a resident, but have not arrested anyone yet. “We include this in our surveillance,” says a spokesperson.
