Video: beabadoobee covers Vanessa Carlton’s “A Thousand Miles”

Beatrice Ilejay Laus aka beabadoobee has performed a rocking cover version of Vanessa Carlton’s “A Thousand Miles” for BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge. Her interpretation is bursting with booming guitar riffs and a gentle voice.

Pavement is the biggest inspiration for beabadoobee

The 22-year-old singer-songwriter combines influences from the 1990s and early 2000s in her music. She has previously covered several Pavement songs, and even dedicated her own song to the singers and guitarists with “I Wish I Was Stephen Malkmus” (2019). In it she sings, “And I’m sitting at home crying to Pavement / I wish I was Stephen Malkmus”. She also performed her own song ‘The Perfect Pair’ while appearing on BBC Radio 1, featured on her current album BEATOPIA (2022).

The native Filipina is currently traveling through Europe. She will then start her North American tour at the end of October. She made her big breakthrough in 2020 when she released the single “death bed (coffee for your head)” together with rapper Powfu, which went viral in just a few days, especially on TikTok. The hit even topped the charts in Singapore and Malaysia. Most recently, beabadoobee released the single “CYBERKISS 2 U*” in early September in cooperation with BLACKSTARKIDS.
